TEMPE, Arizona — LaVonne Jean Shaffer passed away on August 10, 2018.

LaVonne was born in Fort Dodge, Iowa, to the late Selmar and Alice Rierson.

She graduated from Fort Dodge Senior High, where she was active in plays,

musicals and cheerleading. She later attended Iowa Central Community College.

She married Gerald Lee Shaffer and they raised their family in Fort Dodge. Their friends and neighbors always held a special place in their hearts. She was a member of St. Olaf Lutheran Church and the Junior Women’s Club. Summers were spent at Lake Okoboji.

Upon moving to Tempe, AZ, she became an avid “Sun Devil” fan and enjoyed attending A.S.U. sports events.

She was a member of King of Glory Lutheran Church and was active in the women’s sewing group, “Stitch-a-Smile.”

She spent her last days at Friendship Village in Tempe. While there, she was able to attend church and was cared for with love.

She is survived by her son, Eric Shaffer, Tempe, AZ; daughters, Kim Hannan, Coeur D’Alene, ID and Ann Schurbon, Peoria, AZ;

brother, Denny (Joni) Ryerson, Scottsdale, AZ; sister-in-law, Marilyn Gano, Temple City, CA;

grandchildren, Kristen (Marc) Stanley, Flagstaff, AZ, Kari (Collin) Henline, Peoria, AZ and Kelly (Cillian) Murray, Littleton, CO. She is also survived by her three great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

She is predeceased by Husband, Gerald Shaffer; Sons, Alan, Mark and Todd Shaffer; Sister, Shirley Keigan.

A memorial service will be held on September 8, 2018, at Tempe Mortuary, 405 E. Southern Ave., Tempe, AZ
