Burlyn (Burly) PeCoy, Jr., 84, of Fort Dodge, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on August 8, 2018 at his home at Friendship Haven Kenyon Place.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, August 11, at 10:00 am at Gunderson Funeral Home Chapel with one hour of visitation prior. Pastor Henderson of St. Paul Lutheran Church will officiate. Military rites will be provided by the VFW and US Army Honor Guard. A celebration of Burlyn’s life will follow the service at the Fort Dodge VFW. Interment will take place at a later date.

Burlyn A. PeCoy, Jr. was born in Fort Dodge on March 16, 1934 to parents Burlyn and Evelyn PeCoy, Sr. He attended the Fort Dodge Public Schools before serving in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. In 1952 he married Charlotte Gutz, the love of his life, and they began their long life together.

Burlyn began his working career as a fireman/engineer with the MStL Railroad. In 1964 his career path changed to over-the-road trucking, and he trucked for various companies until becoming an owner-operator. From the day following his retirement from the trucking industry in 1996 until his death, he worked at Mid Country Machinery, and was lovingly referred to by this second “family” as “da Boss.”

Among his survivors are his wife Charlotte, and his brother, Garry PeCoy (Anita). Also surviving are daughters Belinda Ladlie and Sue Blanchet (Ron), sons Burlyn (Bud) III (Josette) and Michael (Heidi), grandchildren Dan Ramus, Angela Roberson, Jenifer Johnson, Jeff Hemann, Annie Brace, Emily Lyon, Amanda Mundie, Michael Tagliamonte, and Lauren PeCoy, along with 14 great grandchildren.

Burlyn was preceded in death by his parents, Burlyn A. PeCoy Sr. and Evelyn Waltman, grandparents Henry and Mabel Jutting, an infant daughter, Luann, and sister Helen Alexander.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be left to the Friendship Haven Care Trust Fund.
