AMES — Todd Ohlsen, age 57, of Ames died at Israel Family Hospice House in Ames on February 19, 2018. A gathering of friends and family will take place from 6:00-8:00 p.m. February 28, 2018, at Grandon Funeral and Cremation Care, 414 Lincoln way Ames, Iowa 50010. A celebration of Todd’s life will be held at 2:00 p.m. March 1, 208 at Bethesda Lutheran Church, 1517 Northwestern Ave, Ames, IA 50010.
Todd was born in Lake City, Iowa, on March 21, 1960, the son of Wilbur and Joan Ohlsen. He graduated from Rockwell City High School in 1978. After High School Todd was asked to take the civil service test and passed, which he used to become the youngest postmaster in Iowa at that time. Todd had his first postmaster job in Jolly, Iowa, and then in 1992, he became the postmaster in Ogden, Iowa. Todd put so much hard work and dedication into his postmaster career that he was able to retire at the age of 52.
Todd is survived by his father Willbur, sister Pam (Dan) Sargent, two nieces; Amy (Corey) Schmidt, Katie Sargent, four great nieces and nephews; Izzy, Sawyer, Penny, and Ridely Schmidt, numerous cousins and many friends. He was preceeded in death by his mother Joan.
