Arlys Smith, 85, of Fort Dodge, passed away on Friday, February 16, 2018, at her home. Services were held this past Tuesday at the Gunderson Funeral Chapel in Fort Dodge.
Arlys is survived by her two daughters, Robin McElroy of Overland Park, Kansas and Bonnie Smith (Alex Romero) of San Diego, California; 7 grandchildren, Matthew (Nichole) McElroy, Lisa (Brian) Peters, William (Sarah) McElroy, Christopher McElroy, Kyle Smith, Alex Romero Jr. and Cody Romero; 7 great grandchildren, Colin McElroy, Alexis Peters, Logan McElroy, Jackson McElroy, William McElroy, Aiden Peters and Jacob McElroy. Arlys is preceded in death by her parents, her husband Rolland, 1 sister and 4 brothers.
Arlys Nadine Abraham, the daughter of Alfred and Josie (Jamtgaard) Abraham, was born July 12, 1932 in Beresford, South Dakota and graduated from Beresford High School. In 1954, Arlys was united in marriage to Rolland Smith in Wichita, Kansas. They made their home in Junction City Kansas the later in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. In 1968 they moved to Fort Dodge and ran the Truck Haven Cafe from 1968 until 1978. Then in 1978 until 1990 they ran the Towers Restaurant. Her husband passed away on July 3, 1990, and she later retired in 2004.
