Funeral services for Joan will be held on Wednes­day, Jan­uary 17, at 10:30 am at the Salem Un­ited Meth­odist Church in Hubbard. Burial will follow in the Hubb­ard Cem­etery.

The family will receive friends on Tuesday, January 16, from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Salem United Methodist Church.

Memorial contributions may directed to the family for a memorial fund to be established.

Joan Beth (Van Patter) Bunte was born on July 29, 1930 to Rollie and Agnes (Boeke) Van Patter in a Model A Ford in route to the Eldora Hospital.

She graduated from Hubbard High School in 1948 and the American Institute of Business in Des Moines. She was employed by the Atomic Research Commission at Iowa State University in Ames, IA.

Joan was united in marriage to Gene E. Bunte on October 26, 1951. They lived in San Diego and Oceanside, CA while Gene served in the U.S. Marine Corps. Joan worked as a secretary for a real estate and insurance company in Oceanside until Gene was deployed overseas. Joan and Gene made their home on the family farm in Hubbard, IA in 1954. Joan was employed by the Hubbard Coop as a secretary.

Joan lived by her faith, love for her husband Gene and her family and her special friends and acquaintances. She enjoyed serving on committees and dedicated many volunteer hours as the secretary of the Hubbard Care Center Board. In 2005 she was voted Mrs. Hubbard. She also enjoyed teaching Sunday school at Salem United Methodist Church, traveling, sports, music, playing Bridge, visiting with friends over coffee and spending time at their winter home in Mesa, AZ for several years.

Joan is survived by her three sons, Alan (Diane) of Monmouth Beach, NJ, Brent (Pam) of Fort Dodge, IA, and Curt (Shirley) of Hubbard, IA; five grandchildren, Aaron Bunte, Nicholas Bunte, Christina (Bunte) Mitchell, Jay Bunte and Alex Bunte; one great-granddaughter Elise; along with other relatives and friends.

Joan was preceded in death by her parents, Rollie and Agnes (Boeke) Van Patter, stepmother Marie Van Patter, husband Gene, brother Charles Emery who died as an infant and a sister Norma (Van Patter) Phalen.
