VIOLA (LANDMESSER) HARRIS

Viola (Landmesser) Harris, 98, of Fort Dodge, went to her heavenly home on Monday, December 11, 2017 surrounded by her family at the Paula J. Baber Hospice Home. The memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, December 18, 2017 at Christ Lutheran Church with Pastor Craig Miller officiating. Visitation will be held from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. on Sunday at Gunderson Funeral Home & Cremation Services.

Viola was born October 29, 1919 on a farm near Gilmore City, IA. The daughter of Ora and Lizzie (Stauffer) Landmesser. She attended school at Rolfe and Gilmore City and graduated from Gilmore City High School in 1936. She was united in marriage to Chester R. Harris on January 12, 1941 at First Lutheran Church in Gilmore City and the couple made their home in Fort Dodge. She worked at Lutheran Hospital, Gift House Stamps, McLellan’s, Home Furniture Company and the Boston Store retiring in 1981. She was a charter member of Christ Lutheran Church. She was also a member of the Daughters of The Revolutionary War. She enjoyed quilting, sewing, babysitting and spending time with her family.

Viola is survived by her daughters Judy (Gary) Onnen of Manson, IA and Janet Hanrahan of Fort Dodge; grandchildren Chris (Rich) Bloom of Fort Dodge, Mike (Maggie) Hanrahan of Fort Dodge, John (Kimberly) Onnen of Barnesville, MN and Nicole (Mark) Baughman of Sammamish, WA; great-grandchildren Caley Bloom, Kierstin Bloom, Corbin Bloom, Blake Richmond, Audrey Richmond, Alister Hanrahan, Olivia Baughman and Gregory Baughman; great-great- grandchildren Isaiah Toro, Eli Richmond and Aaliyah Gochenouer; honorary grandson Richard Lennon and several nieces, nephews and extended family. She was preceded in death by her husband Chester in 1988; her parents; brothers Herald, Leslie and Orville Landmesser; sisters Gladys Triplett and Edna Cagnilia and her son-in-law Michael J. Hanrahan.
