SAUK RAPIDS, MN — Walter D. Morgan, 93, formerly of Fort Dodge, passed away on Mon­day, August 7, 2017 at the Good Shep­herd Commun­ity in Sauk Rapids. The visitation will be held from 10:00 to 11:00 AM with the funeral service at 11:00 AM on Monday, August 14 at Trinity United Methodist Church in Fort Dodge.

Interment will be at North Lawn Cemetery. Arrange­ments have been entrusted with Gunderson Funeral Home and Cremation Services.

Walter was united in marriage to Ellen J. Elsberry on April 29, 1944, in Marshalltown.

He was in the grocery business in Marshalltown, and in 1950, the family moved to Clarion where he owned and operated a meat market. In 1956, the family moved to Fort Dodge where he managed the meat department at Fort Dodge Fruit and Grocery until going to Randall’s where he retired in 1989. Following retirement, he served 10 years as a volunteer DAV van driver, transporting veterans to the V.A. Medical Center in Des Moines.

Walter enjoyed travel, biking, sports, classic cars, and was an avid reader. He was devoted husband and dearly loved his family. His deep faith was evident in his life. He was a charter member of Trinity United Methodist Church and was a past member of Fort Dodge Lions, Kiwanis Club, and H.O.M.E. Inc. He was a life member of VFW Post 1856 and DAV #29.

Walter is survived by his wife, Ellen, of Sauk Rapids; daughters Marsha (Dr. Ronald) Elg of St. Cloud, MN and Colleen (Randy) Peltz of Ringsted, IA; four grandchildren: Holly (JD) Anderson of Sartell, MN; Matthew (Katie) Peltz of Lakeville, MN; Heidi (Jason) Ness of St. Cloud; Emily (Scott) Gaskill of Iowa City. He is also survived by eleven great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Jessie Morgan, brother Wilbur, and two infant grandchildren.

Memorials may be left to the discretion of the family.
