ROBERT W. “BOB” WARLAND

Robert W. (Bob) Warland, 83, of Fort Dodge, died Tuesday, May 23, 2017, at the Paula J. Baber Hospice Home.

A service honoring Bob’s life will be 10:30 a.m. Friday, May 26, at St. Olaf Lutheran Church, with the Rev. David Grindberg officiating. Interment will be in Blossom Hill Cemetery. Visitation is 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. Thursday at Gunderson Funeral Home & Cremation Services. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to St. Olaf Lutheran Church or Paula J. Baber Hospice Home.

Bob is survived by his wife Bev; sons, Gregg (Kim) Warland, Fort Dodge; Joel Warland, Eagle Grove; and Mark Warland, Fort Dodge; seven grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren; and a brother Dale (Ruth) Warland, Mendota Heights, Minn.

Robert Wendell Warland, the son of Joseph and Gertrude (Hovick) Warland, was born May 8, 1934, on the family farm near Badger. He attended Badger Elementary School and graduated in 1952, from Fort Dodge Senior High. Bob attended St. Olaf College in Northfield, Minn. He then served in the U.S. Army from 1953 to 1955. Following his discharge, Bob attended junior college. In 1956, Bob was united in marriage to Bev Samuelson in Fort Dodge. The couple built a home and lived in Badger before later moving into Fort Dodge. He assisted his father-in-law on his mink farm and then Bob operated his own mink farm for many years. Bob was employed with Hormel for 30 years and retired from there in 1983. During this time, he also farmed with his father and Bev and Bob owned and operated The Tree House for 14 years. After retiring from Hormel’s, Bob farmed full time. Bob retired from active farming in 2016.

Bob was a member of Badger Lutheran Church until transferring to St. Olaf Lutheran Church where he was an active member. He sang in various church choirs since age 4. He was a member of the American Legion, Elks Lodge and he enjoyed his farmers and hunters coffee group that met at Hy-Vee. Bob taught Sunday school and he was an avid woodworker.

Bob loved his family dearly and especially adored the grandchildren and great grandchildren.
