DEAN “NICK THE GREEK” NICHOLS
VINCENT — Dean “Nick the Greek” Nichols, 87 of Vincent passed away at the Paula J. Baber Hospice Home in Fort Dodge on March 14, 2017. Graveside services will be Saturday, April 1, 2017 at 2:00 pm. at the Newark Township Cemetery near Vincent, Iowa followed by refreshments at the Vincent Community Center.
Dean Nichols was born May 16, 1929 to Frank and Gladys (Conley) Nichols in Vincent, IA. Dean started working young as a farm hand, then on to many different types of work, driving semi, a diesel mechanic, semi owner-operator, and a road construction worker. Even though he was retired, Dean had to keep busy so it was back to work on a farm, to being a bartender, to his last job, a camp host at Gotch Park for 12 years.
Dean married Theresa Case on March 5, 1948. To this union 6 children were born, Sue, Marian,
Dawn, Barbara, Gale and Michael. They later divorced. Dean married Charlotte Farrell October 1967. They later divorced.
Dean is survived by his children; Sue Nichols of Eagle Grove, Marian Strayer of Klemme, Barbara (Willis) Jergenson of Kanawha, Gale (Larry) Draves of Clarion, Michael Nichols of Savannah, GA, and son-in-law Clem Steil of Eagle Grove, 11 grandchildren, 28 great grandchildren, 5 great great grandchildren and 3 step grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister, Leila Nichols of Webster City and sister-in-law Millie Nichols of Morris, IL.
Dean was preceded in death by his parents, daughter Dawn Ann Steil, granddaughter Deanne (Dan) Johnson and great grandson Andrew Johnson, son-in-law Nathan Strayer and siblings, Robert Nichols, Delbert Nichols and Eva Mae Durkee.
Memorials will be given to Paula J. Baber Hospice Home and the Vincent Fire Department.
