Virginia J. “Gini” Castenson, 96, of Fort Dodge, died Fri­day, Jan­uary 6, 2017, at Fort Dodge Villa Care Center.

A service honoring Virginia’s life will be 10 a.m. Tuesday, January 10, at the Gunderson Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Craig Miller officiating. Interment will be in Lost Grove Cemetery near Harcourt. Visitation is from 9:30 a.m. until service time on Tuesday at the Gunderson Funeral Home & Cremation Services.

Virginia Jean Castenson was born in Fort Dodge to Glenn A. Nordeen and Jessie M. (Hollister) Nordeen on July 22, 1920. She was married to Norman T. Castenson on February 14, 1946 in Fort Dodge, Iowa. To this union was born Rodney N. and Douglas G. Castenson. Virginia was a 1938 graduate of Fort Dodge High School and attended Fort Dodge Tobin Business College. She was employed as a legal secretary by the law firm of Helsell, Burnquist and Bradshaw of Fort Dodge for a number of years. She was a member of Faith Lutheran Church of Harcourt, where she sang in the choir, taught Sunday School, was a church secretary and was active in the women’s organization. She was a charter member of the Harcourt American Legion Auxiliary and a member of the Webster County Farm Bureau.

She is survived by her husband Norman; two sons, Rodney (Helen) of Spencer, Iowa; and Douglas (Dean Peterson) of Waterloo, Iowa; grandchildren, Lisa (Jim) Horst, of Spencer, Iowa; and Mark (Julie) Castenson of Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Her parents preceded her in death as well as brother Keith Nordeen of Fort Dodge, Iowa; and sister Elaine Hall of Buford, Georgia. She is also survived by a sister-in-law Mildred Nordeen of Fort Dodge, Iowa; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends; and four great grandchildren, Drew, Abby and Lauren Horst of Spencer, Iowa and Asher M. Castenson of Cedar Rapids, Iowa. She is a member of Christ Lutheran Church in Fort Dodge.
