OTHO — Melvin “Dean” Derrig, 82, of Otho passed away at his home on Wednes­day, Jan­uary 25, 2017. Dean will be cremated and no services will be held at this time. Arrangements have been entrusted with Gunderson Funeral Home & Cremation Services.

Dean was born in Fort Dodge on November 6, 1935 to Louis and Luella (Conlon) Derrig. He attended school in Lehigh. He was united in marriage to Donna Smith on May 12, 1953 in Minnesota, they later divorced. He worked for the Celotex Corporation and then Lawrence Derrig Construction for many years. He enjoyed cooking and going hunting and fishing. He will be deeply missed by all of his family and friends.

Dean is survived by his daughter Candi Derrig-Coughlon of Granbury, TX; grandchildren Courtney Coughlon of Granburty, TX, David Coughlon of Smithville, MO, Ashley Derrig-Taylor of Bastrop, TX, Jason Derrig and Curt Derrig both of Fort Dodge; several great-grandchildren; 1 great-great-grandchild and several nieces, nephews and extended family. He was preceded in death by his parents Louis and Louella; his son Lonnie Derrig; his brother Daryl Derrig and his sisters Dorine Box and Donetta McAnally.

Memorials may be left to the discretion of the family.
