JOAN C. HILL
Joan C. Hill, formerly of Fort Dodge, passed away Monday, January 16, 2017 at Crestview Nursing Home in Webster City. She was just 2 weeks shy of her 89th birthday.
A visitation will be held Sunday, January 22, 2017 from 2:00 pm until 4:00 pm at Laufersweiler-Sievers Funeral Home. A prayer service will follow the visitation at 4:00 pm.
Joan (Cavanaugh) Hill was born on February 3, 1928 in Spencer, IA. She lived in Sioux Rapids, IA until 1935 when she moved with her family to Fort Dodge. Joan graduated from Fort Dodge Senior High School in 1945. She was the first person hired as a secretary when Younkers came to Fort Dodge in 1947. On October 15, 1949 Joan was united in marriage to John Hill at Corpus Christi Church. The couple established their home in Fort Dodge and raised their family there. For 12 years, she worked at the Boston Store in the office. She was a member of Corpus Christi Church and did volunteer work for the church and Catholic Charities. Joan also loved to attend garage sales and to have garage sales of her own. Joan enjoyed traveling with her family, particularly camping trips to the mountains when the children were young. In later years, she enjoyed traveling around the country with her husband and spending time with her grandchildren. She especially enjoyed annual family gatherings at Christmas and at Lake Okoboji in the summer.
Joan is survived by her husband, John of Webster City; son, Scott (Madelyn) Hill of New Virginia, IA; daughters, Cindy (Bob) Weaton of Muscatine and Maureen (Jay) Harding of Iowa City; 5 grandchildren and 7great-grandchildren.
Joan was preceded in death by her parents, Matthew and Ruth (Bradigum) Cavanaugh; and her brother, Gordon Cavanaugh.
Memorials may be left to the Friends of the Fort Dodge Public Library.
