AVIS ELAINE GREGERSON

KNIERIM — Avis Elaine Gregerson, 74, of Knierim, IA, passed away at 6:00 AM, Wednesday, January 11, 2017 at the Paula J. Baber Hospice Home, Fort Dodge, IA.

She was born December 7, 1942 in the family farm house outside of Havelock, IA on Hwy 4, to Roger and Bernice Hudson. She married Paul Gregerson on August 18, 1967 and he survives.

Also surviving is her brother, Dennis (Bonnie) Hudson of Rolfe, IA; her sister, De (Blake) Grundemeier of Fort Dodge, IA; three sons, Blaine (Tammy) Dawson of Rolfe, IA; Rick (Kelly) Dawson of Cedar Rapids, IA; and Rusty (Amy Houy) Gregerson of Fort Dodge, IA; step children, Randy (Deb) Gregerson of Fort Dodge, IA; Kris (Mike) Isaacson of Des Moines, IA; Lori Hoover of Fort Dodge, IA; Kelly Gregerson of Fort Dodge, IA; and John Gregerson of Jefferson, IA; eight granddaughters, Delaney, Rebecca, Cassy, Ciera, September, Ashley, Amanda, Michelle, and Sydney; seven grandsons, Dalton, Dayton, Dallas, Dustin, Matthew, Jon, Gregory, Michael, and Trevor; and several great-grandchildren and cousins.

Her parents and one sister, Janet Cronbaugh, preceded her in death.

Avis was a long time resident of Fort Dodge, then Knierim where she lived since leaving her childhood home in Rolfe. She graduated from Rolfe High School in 1961 and went on to graduate from La’ James and then Iowa Central in 1980 with an associate’s degree in accounting. She worked as an office manager/bookkeeper at RoJohn Home Improvement in Fort Dodge for many years. Before RoJohn Home Improvement, Avis worked at Iowa Central, Fort Dodge City Chamber of Commerce, and had run her own beauty salon at one point.

She loved to take pictures and enjoyed reading and playing games on her kindle. She also loved to sew, cook, and put together puzzles of all sizes. Avis enjoyed attending craft fairs with her ladies and visiting with family and friends whenever she had the chance to catch up. On Wednesday nights you could often find her at dinner with her ladies laughing and having a great time. She was also a long time member of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Fort Dodge.

Avis was truly a saint sent by God to walk the Earth; she would go out of her way to help anyone whenever they needed it. Heaven gained one of the most kind-hearted, loving, and generous women.

Visitation will be held on Friday, January 20, 2017 from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Laufersweiler-Sievers Funeral Home in Fort Dodge. The funeral service will be held at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church on Saturday, January 21, 2017 at 10:30 a.m. Avis is being buried at St. Olaf Cemetery in Fort Dodge, and a luncheon is scheduled to follow.

Memorials may be left to the discretion of the family.
