LUCILLE THOMPSON

EAGLE GROVE — Lucille Maxine (Wegner) Thompson, the daughter of Emil and Mar­ga­ret (Vehrs) Weg­ner, was born August 3, 1926 in Aspinwall, Iowa. She was raised and educated in the area of her birth, graduating from Manning High School. She graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Education from Drake University.

She taught in rural schools and in Perry, Iowa before moving to Eagle Grove where she taught school for 30 years. While teaching in Eagle Grove she met her husband. On June 14th, 1956 she was united in marriage to Maynard O. Thompson in her hometown Manning, Iowa.

Lucille was an active member of the Missouri Synod Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church and a member of the Ladies Aide. As a member of Mt. Calvary Lutheran she taught Sunday School and Vacation Bible School for 25 years. She was a charter member of the Alpha Delta Kappa teacher sorority and a member of the Rotary Ann Auxiliary. She enjoyed bowling, card playing, traveling and golfing. She and Maynard won the Club Championship at the Eagle Grove Country Club in 1984. Her greatest joys were her children and grandchildren and spending time with family.

Lucille passed away on Wednesday, December 28, 2016, at Oaknoll Retirement Community in Iowa City, at the age of 90 years. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, and brothers Melvin, Paul, Warren and Frank Wegner.

Survivors include her children, Brent Thompson (Larry Smith) from Chicago, IL, her daughter Beth Hanna from North Liberty, IA, her grandchildren Alex and Luke Hanna from Iowa City, IA, her brother Don Wegner (Marjean) from Amelia Island, FL, her sister Judy Wegner from Manning, IA, and many cousins, nieces, and nephews.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, January 3, 2017, at 1:30 p.m. at Evangelical Lutheran Church in Eagle Grove with Pastor Mark Peterson of Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church officiating. Visitation is at the church one hour prior to the service. Burial to follow in Rose Hill Cemetery.

Memorials may be left to Iowa City Hospice.
