Extension cord catches fire

An extension cord fire was quickly put out Monday evening before Fort Dodge firefighters arrived on scene.

According to Lenny Sanders, assistant Fort Dodge fire chief, a small heater was being used to heat a smoking room at 700 S. 17th St. The heater was powered by an “undersized extension cord,” Sanders said.

The cord caught fire because it was overpowered.

Sanders said the breaker was shut off, causing the fire to be extinguished.

Firefighters arrived on scene, but because the fire had already been put out, there was no need for them to extinguish it.
