Standoff suspect charged with

harassment

WALL LAKE — The man the Sac County sheriff said was involved in a four-hour standoff Sunday has been charged with harassment.

Justin A. Pope, 32, of Odebolt, is charged with one count of first-degree harassment.

According to Sheriff Ken McClure, Sac County deputies were seeking Pope after he was allegedly threatening suicide and making homicidal threats.

He was located in a home in Wall Lake, but McClure said he refused to come out and threatened to shoot officers.

After four hours, a crisis negotiator from the Iowa State Patrol was able to convince Pope to surrender without incident.

Pope made his initial appearance in Sac County Magistrate Court Tuesday, where he was ordered held without bond in the Sac County Jail.
