A Mason City man has been ordered held on bond after he allegedly assaulted a woman and a juvenile.

Jamin J. Pierce, 42, is charged with willful injury, domestic abuse, operating a motor vehicle without the owner’s consent, fourth-degree criminal mischief, animal abuse and two counts of obstructing emergency communications.

Fort Dodge police were contacted about the incident on Dec. 2, when the juvenile showed up at school, according to the complaint, filed with the Webster County attorney’s office.

School staff noticed the juvenile had a swollen lip and when they asked him about it, he told them that Pierce hit him in the mouth.

When police investigated, they learned that the incident started as an argument between Pierce and a woman at a Fort Dodge bar, according to the complaint.

It’s alleged that, after the two came to the woman’s house, they continued arguing, causing the juvenile to approach and see what was happening. At that point, the complaint stated Pierce kicked a dog in the house and the juvenile, upset at Pierce’s actions, hit him. The complaint stated Pierce hit the juvenile in the mouth, causing the juvenile to run into the bathroom to hide from Pierce.

Pierce then allegedly pushed the woman to the ground, punching and kicking her. He’s also accused of breaking her cell phone and taking the juvenile’s cell phone, the complaint stated.

He also allegedly took the woman’s vehicle without her permission.

Pierce was arrested Thursday and made his initial appearance in Webster County Magistrate Court Friday morning.

Magistrate Steve Kersten ordered Pierce held on $13,000 bond, citing the serious crimes Pierce is accused of committing.

Pierce asked Kersten to either release him or to lower his bond, promising to appear at every court appearance.

“I’ve never missed a court date,” Pierce told Kersten.

Kersten denied Pierce’s request.

He also issued two no-contact orders for Pierce; one for the woman he’s accused of assaulting and one for the juvenile.

Pierce’s preliminary hearing has been set for Dec. 16.
