Downed cable caused Mediacom outage
Cable, telephone and to a lesser extent, internet services for Mediacom customers in the Fort Dodge area were interrupted for several hours on Wednesday.
The problem occurred between about 9 a.m. and 6:30 p.m., according to Phyllis Peters, a company spokeswoman.
She said the outage was caused when a piece of farm machinery pulled down a fiber optic cable near U.S. Highway 169 and Webster County Road C66. The cable is owned by Windstream, but Mediacom uses it also, she said. She said internet service was “much less affected” because of redundancies in the system.
