Nature Trail bridge closed after inspection

After the flood events that occurred from June 6 through July 2, the Fort Dodge city engineering department contracted with Calhoun-Burns and Associates to conduct bridge inspections to many of the city’s trail and road bridges.

One of the bridges located on the Nature Trail has been recommended to be closed due to structural issues.

The city is working on short-term solutions to open the bridge safely or temporarily reroute the creek crossing and long-term plans could include replacing the structure.

“We will update as plans change and we ask that everyone please respect the bridge closure and adapt your trail usage in order to accommodate this closure,” Lori Branderhorst, the city’s director of parks, recreation and forestry, said in a written statement. “If there are further questions please feel free to contact the city’s parks, recreation and forestry department at 576-7237.
