Junk collection returns to FD Wednesday

The first spring cleanup day collection of refuse in Fort Dodge will be held Wednesday.

That day’s collection will cover the area north of Second Avenue North and east of North 15th Street. It will include Orchard Glen, Rolling Hills and 170th Street.

Items to be picked up must be placed at curbside not more than 24 hours before the collection, according to the Fort Dodge Public Works Department. However, they must be ready for pickup before 6 a.m. on Wednesday.

All refuse items must be placed at curbside because nothing left in an alley will be picked up.

The following items will not be picked up:

• Tires

• Vehicle batteries

• Auto parts

• Liquid paint, varnish or motor oil

• Electronics, such as TVs, that have not been taken apart

• Appliances such as stoves, refrigerators, freezers, water heaters, water softeners washers, dryers, microwaves, dishwashers

• Lumber, drywall or other building materials

Loose items will not be picked up.

Poles for swingsets and clothes lines must be taken apart and any concrete must be removed.

City crews will not pick up refuse at businesses or apartment buildings.

The weekly recycling collection will be completed as usual on Wednesday.
