Jack of Hearts benefit planned

FONDA — A “Jack of Hearts” benefit is being planned for baby Jack Liam Palmer, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m Sunday at the Fonda Fire/EMS Station. Freewill donation will be taken at the door for a pork loin sandwich lunch. Carryouts are available in Fonda, by calling 712-288-5799.

Donation may also be made at the First Community Banks in Fonda, Newell, Pomeroy or Rockwell City. Make checks payable to “Jack of Hearts Benefit.”

Jack is the son of Fonda native and 2002 Newell-Fonda graduate Chuck Palmer and wife Tiffany. Jack was born with a rare congenital heart defect — Hypoplastic Left Heart Syndrome — and is being treated at Children’s Hospital in St. Louis, awaiting heart and lung transplants. The benefit is being held to help with medical expenses and travel costs as the parents must take turns commuting from their jobs in Kansas City to stay with Jack at the hospital.
