FDCSD plans community forum to discuss school safety

The Fort Dodge Community School District is hosting a school safety community forum on March 19.

The district is teaming up with the Fort Dodge Police Department, Webster County Sheriff’s Department and Webster County Community Safety Committee to educate the public on safety procedures used in schools.

The forum will run from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. in the Fort Dodge Senior High Little Theatre.

Attendees are asked to use the cafeteria entrance next to the Little Theatre on the west side of the school.

“With the heightened awareness around school safety, we feel it is important to bring parents, community members, school leaders and first responders together for an educational discussion,” said Doug Van Zyl, FDCSD superintendent.

The forum will include discussion on why and how to monitor social media and the standard response protocol used in emergencies. A question and answer session will also take place.

“Creating a common understanding around school safety in our community is an important step to helping keep our kids safe,” Van Zyl said. “We hope people will take advantage of this opportunity to participate in this important conversation.”
