Teen passes out, officer returns her to consciousness

A Fort Dodge police officer brought a teen out of unconsciousness over the weekend after she’d been drinking and suffered a medical episode.

Capt. Ryan Gruenberg, of the Fort Dodge Police Department, said Officer Chris Weiland responded to a medical call on Monday, New Year’s Day, at 12:30 a.m.

The call was about a 17-year-old girl who was intoxicated and suffering from seizures, Gruenberg said.

After Weiland arrived, the girl became unresponsive. Gruenberg said the officer turned her on her side in what is known as the “recovery position” and she regained consciousness.

She was not identified.

The teen was treated by UnityPoint Health — Trinity Regional Medical Center.
