Lake City wastewater discharge stopped
LAKE CITY — Officials with the Iowa Department of Natural Resources have stopped a wastewater discharge in Lake City.
However, according to the DNR, it may take a month before the city receives new pumps and controls.
The discharge was stopped at 4 p.m. Wednesday.
It began earlier that day after staff discovered an electrical failure after the main pumping station flooded.
Officials said an unknown amount of untreated wastewater reached Lake Creek, which is a tributary of the North Raccoon River.
In the meantime, the DNR said city officials are working with a contractor to set up a larger pump and hose, which will be capable of carrying wastewater to the city’s lagoons.
