Kahl joins Grace Lutheran as pastor

Parishioners at Grace Lutheran Church will be welcoming a new pastor to their congregation Sunday when the Rev. Dan Kahl will be installed at a festival worship service.

The service will begin at 9:30 a.m. at the church, 211 S. Ninth St.

Kahl is the 10th pastor at Grace Lutheran.

He said he has been a pastor for 20 years, with Grace Lutheran being his third congregation.

“Before I became a pastor I toured in a Christian band called Sojourn,” he said. “And then when I became a pastor, I was a pastor in Austin, Minnesota, for 16 years and Waverly, Iowa ,for four years.”

Part of what attracted him to Fort Dodge was that it was familiar territory.

His wife, the Rev. Lissa Kahl, is associate pastor at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church, in Humboldt.

“We were looking for a call nearby, if possible,” Kahl said. “Grace was open and it seems like a really good fit.”

Kahl said he’s enjoyed getting acquainted with Fort Dodge, including “meeting the people and participating in the ministry of Grace.”

“They have a lot of good things going on here already, and so I look forward to joining with those and maybe adding a couple new ones.”

Kahl added that he is planning on using his musical talents in his capacity as pastor, though he doesn’t know exactly how he’ll utilize them yet.

He is looking forward to his time in Fort Dodge.

“It’s been a delight to get to know people,” Kahl said. “It’s been fun.”
