Williams pleads guilty to attempted murder

Phillip Williams, 26, of Lafayette, Indiana, pleaded guilty to attempted murder, abuse of a human corpse, and accessory after the fact, Monday afternoon in Webster County District Court.

Williams was originally charged with first-degree murder in the killing of Jessica Gomez, 26, of Fort Dodge, in August 2017. But he pleaded guilty to an amended charge.

At the hearing, Williams pleaded guilty to attempted murder, a class B felony, abuse of a human corpse, class D felony, and accessory after the fact, aggravated misdemeanor.

He faces a total of 32 years in prison.

Sentencing is scheduled for April 22 in Webster County.
