One arrested, one sought in shed burglary

HUMBOLDT — One man has been arrested and another man is wanted after an alleged burglary from a machine shed north of Humboldt, according to the Humboldt County Sheriff’s Department.

Mark Leeper, 46, of Dakota City, is charged with first-degree burglary, a Class B felony; fifth-degree criminal mischief, a simple misdemeanor; and fifth-degree theft, a simple misdemeanor.

An arrest warrant has been issued for Thomas Hendrickson Jr., 50, of Humboldt. Hendrickson is charged with first-degree burglary, a Class B felony; fifth-degree criminal mischief, a simple misdemeanor; fifth-degree theft, a simple misdemeanor; and interference with official acts, a simple misdemeanor.

According to the report, a Humboldt County sheriff’s deputy was called to the 2700 mile of 170th Street on Nov. 18.

The landowner there saw two men in his machine shed at about 1:30 p.m.. The men were allegedly stealing items from the building, the Sheriff’s Department reported.

Officials said a brief fight took place before the two suspects left the scene.

The deputy arrived a short time later.

At 3 p.m., that deputy found a vehicle matching the description provided by the landowner in the 700 block of Main Street in Dakota City.

At that time, the deputy made contact with Leeper and Hendrickson.

Hendrickson left the the scene in another vehicle parked nearby as the deputy was waiting for backup from other law enforcement officers.

That vehicle, which was registered to Hendrickson, was later found abandoned in Dakota City.

Suspected controlled substances were found in both vehicles, the Sheriff’s Department reported. Further charges are pending.

Leeper is being held in the Humboldt County Jail on $25,600 cash or surety bond.

Hendrickson’s bond has been set at $25,900.
