Angstrom narrowly wins Webster Co. treasurer

Brenda Angstrom will be the next Webster County treasurer.

Angstrom, a Democrat, won 7,050 votes according to unofficial results Tuesday night, to Republican Kate Stucky’s 6,867 votes, or 51 to 49 percent.

Final unofficial results weren’t available until nearly 11 p.m.

“It was taking a little long,” Angstrom said, as she celebrated with other Democrats at Amigos. “Everybody just started screaming, and that’s when I knew.”

To what does she attribute her win?

“I would hope my 24 years of experience,” she said.

Angstrom started in the county auditor’s office in 1994, becoming drainage clerk in 1998. She spent 10 years there before moving to the treasurer’s office. In that office, she worked on both the motor vehicle and property tax sides.

County Auditor Jan Messerly, a Democrat, is retiring this year.

Angstrom’s plan is, “while Jan’s still there, learn the things I don’t know yet,” she said.

“Hats off to Kate Stucky for all her hard work, and thank you to everyone who supported me and the voters that voted for me in Webster County,” she added. “I’m honored to be elected.”

Stucky is the office manager for the Greater Fort Dodge Growth Alliance, and serves on the Main Street Fort Dodge — SSMID board.

Attempts to reach her were unsuccessful Tuesday night.
