Tall corn may have factored in crash near Havelock

Two people hurt at uncontrolled intersection; one airlifted

POCAHONTAS COUNTY — A rendering truck overturned after a crash in Pocahontas County Monday morning, sending two to the hospital.

The accident happened at about 11:45 a.m., one mile west and one mile south of Havelock, said Sgt. Nathan Ludwig, Iowa State Patrol media contact.

“It was at an uncontrolled intersection in the gravel roads. Tall corn,” Ludwig said.

“A westbound vehicle failed to yield and the southbound rendering truck clipped the westbound vehicle within the intersection.”

This caused the semitrailer, loaded with dead pigs, to overturn, Ludwig said.

“Both drivers were taken to the local hospital,” he said. “One was then Life-Flighted.”

He described the injuries as incapacitating.

Names of the people involved and descriptions of the vehicles were not available Monday night.

The accident remains under investigation, and charges are pending, Ludwig said.
