FD man accused of molesting 12-year-old

A Fort Dodge man has been arrested on allegations that he molested a 12-year-old child earlier this summer.

Justin S. Pickett, 33, is charged with lascivious acts with a child, sexual exploitation of a minor and invasion of privacy.

It’s alleged, according to criminal complaints filed with the Webster County attorney’s office, that Pickett fondled a 12-year-old girl on June 13 and June 14.

He also allegedly video recorded the child while she was either partially or fully naked, according to the complaint. She was not aware that he was recording her.

Pickett appeared in Webster County Magistrate Court Thursday morning in front of Magistrate Steve Kersten.

Kersten read the complaint to Pickett and appointed local attorney Sarah Livingston to represent him.

The judge also ordered Pickett held on cash-only bonds totaling $17,000.

After going over everything, Kersten asked Pickett if he had any questions.

“I don’t understand half this stuff,” Pickett, who appeared via a closed-circuit TV monitor from the Webster County Jail, told the judge.

Kersten went over all the aspects of the case again for Pickett.

He also ordered Pickett to stay away from the juvenile victim.

Pickett’s preliminary hearing is set for Aug. 17.
