Dencklau admits to assaulting husband

Clare woman pleads guilty to April 6 incident

A woman whose husband drowned in the Des Moines River in May has pleaded guilty to a simple misdemeanor assault charge against him.

Mika Dencklau, 26, of Clare, made a written plea of guilty to simple misdemeanor assault late last week in which she admitted that she assaulted her husband, Alex Dencklau, on April 6, 2018.

Alex Dencklau, 26, also of Clare, drowned while kayaking in the Des Moines River on May 28, 2018. His body was found by family three days later.

The assault charge happened nearly two months prior to the drowning and is an unrelated incident.

District Associate Court Judge Angela Doyle granted Mika Dencklau a deferred judgment in the case, which means, if she is not charged with any criminal offense for the next year, the assault conviction will be expunged from her record.

Dencklau also has to pay a $65 civil penalty as well as court costs of $60.
