Crash near Humboldt leaves one dead

Car, semi collide at US 169 and 130th Street

HUMBOLDT — One person has died and another person was transported with injuries after a two-vehicle crash north of Humboldt Tuesday afternoon, according to Sgt. Nathan Ludwig, of the Iowa State Patrol.

The crash was reported at 3:44 p.m., near the intersection of 130th Street and U.S. Highway 169.

That intersection is also known as the Bode-Livermore turnoff.

The crash involved a 2016 Ford Mustang and a 2005 International semitrailer.

The driver of the car was traveling southbound on U.S. Highway 169, while the driver of the semitrailer was northbound, according Iowa State Patrol crash reports.

The driver of the semitrailer attempted to turn left onto 130th Street, according to the crash reports. The semitrailer was struck head-on by the driver of the Mustang.

Names of the victims were not released by press time.

Iowa State Patrol troopers were still on scene as of about 7:30 p.m.

The Humboldt County Sheriff’s Department, Kossuth County Sheriff’s Department, Humboldt Volunteer Fire Department, and Bode Volunteer Fire Department responded.

The crash remains under investigation.
