Levi Odor-Westrum, 11, a sixth-grader at Community Christian, holds a stack of reading slips in Marsha Halbach’s class on the first day of school. Every night students are asked to read something for 20 minutes. The slips are then signed by parents. The reading slips from all students in the class will be combined to create a paper chain. When the chain wraps around the wall of the classroom, students elebrate with a read and feed party.
