Accident causes traffic lights to go out
A collision early Thursday morning knocked out traffic lights along Kenyon Road.
Fort Dodge Police Lt. Joe Bates said the accident happened around 6:45 a.m. at the intersection of Kenyon Road and Avenue C.
A 2016 Chevrolet Equinox, driven by Patricia Jacob, of Churdan, and a 2005 Ford Focus, driven by Sean Robell, of Rockwell City, were both heading into Fort Dodge on Kenyon Road.
Bates said when they got to the intersection at Avenue C, Robell changed lanes in front of Jacob, but he didn’t leave enough space in between the vehicles, causing them to collide.
The collision caused Jacob’s sport utility vehicle to crash into a MidAmerican Energy pole, causing the power line to fall down.
Bates was unsure if any homes lost power, but it caused traffic lights to fail at four intersections; three of them were along Kenyon Road at Avenue C, Avenue O and U.S. Highway 169. The fourth intersection to lose power was at U.S. Highway 169 and Triton Circle.
No injuries were reported.
Bates said Robell was cited for turning at an intersection and failing to provide proof of insurance.
