CFR to host open house Friday

Community and Family Resources will host an open house from 3 to 5 p.m. Friday to celebrate 50 years of providing wellness and recovery services in Fort Dodge.

The open house will be at the STARS Adolescent Facility, 430 N. Eighth St.

“We have been very fortunate to help hundreds of individuals and their families over the past 50 years,” Michelle De La Riva, executive director of CFR, said. “Last year alone, we provided treatment services to more than 3,000 individuals and prevention services to more than 13,000 individuals. Through this assistance, we are able to help those we serve return to their fully-functioning selves in order to be more engaged in their communities.”

CFR staff and leaders will be sharing stories on how their services have helped save lives over the past half a century.

The open house will also feature architectural renderings of the new CFR facility, which is being built in Fort Dodge.

That new location, expected to open in 2019, will be a state-of-the-art facility that serves as the organization’s central campus.

Dennis Plautz, chief executive officer of the Greater Fort Dodge Growth Alliance, said in a written statement that the new location is important to multiple entities.

“I think it’s a very important part of quality of life and the community development side of economic development in the city of Fort Dodge and Webster County,” Plautz said. “And really, in the region.”

According to information provided by CFR, it uses evidence-based programming, combined with a positive environment, compassionate nurses, mental health experts and substance abuse counselors work together to give those receiving treatment the tools they need to improve their lives.
