Zales closing its mall store in FD
Last day of business is June 26
Zales, known as the diamond store since 1924, will close its doors at Crossroads Mall in Fort Dodge, company officials confirmed Thursday.
Darrell Kearney, the Fort Dodge store manager, said the last day of business is June 26.
He said the company told him there were multiple factors in the decision.
“The biggest thing is the patronage of the mall has dropped tremendously,” Kearney said.
He said he couldn’t disclose the number of people who were employed at the store.
Kearney said there wouldn’t be any additional sales and all of the inventory would be shipped back to a warehouse.
“It’s disheartening because there is two original stores left in the mall when it first opened and that’s Zales and Younkers, and both of us will be gone now,” he said. “Was hoping for it not to happen, but unfortunately it is.”
The Bon-Ton Stores, the parent company of Younkers, announced the closure of its stores in April.
