Pilot unhurt after crashing into field

The pilot of a small aircraft was unhurt after his plane crashed into a field north of the Fort Dodge Regional Airport.

Webster County Sheriff’s Deputy Geoff Miller identified the pilot as Ralph Sonnicksen, of Fort Dodge.

According to Miller, Sonnicksen took off from the airport in his personal plane. He flew northeast, but the engine died.

Sonnicksen couldn’t make it back, so he tried landing in a field near 160th Street and National Avenue, where he hit a mud hole.

Miller said the pilot only suffered minor cuts and bruises.
