The Fort Dodge Community School District will continue to upgrade water piping at Fort Dodge Senior High this summer.

The FDCSD board awarded a contract for the domestic water piping replacement project at a special meeting Monday.

Riley-Armstrong Plumbing and Heating Inc., of Fort Dodge, submitted a low bid of $169,891 and was awarded the contract.

Two other Fort Dodge firms submitted bids for the project.

Midstate Plumbing and Heating Inc., submitted a bid of $173,446. Winger Contracting Co. submitted a bid of $203,829.

Pipes in four tunnels throughout the high school will be upgraded. Those areas include: new locker rooms, near home economics room, near science/office restrooms, and near main office/restrooms.

The project is a continuation of tunnel piping replacement work that began about seven years ago, according to Travis Filloon, FDCSD director of buildings and grounds.

Recent budgeting has made it possible to continue those efforts, Filloon said.

The water lines being replaced run to all of the fixtures for plumbing, such as toilets and sinks.

Filloon said the piping would be replaced with either copper, galvanized pipe, or PVC pipe.

About a quarter of the building’s pipes will be replaced when this project is completed in August.
