Trooper Neil Morenz, of the Iowa State Patrol, looks over a two-vehicle accident that happened at Iowa Highway 175 and Baxter Avenue, near the border of Webster and Calhoun counties, late Tuesday morning. According to Deputy Derek Christie, with the Webster County Sheriff’s Department, the 2015 Dodge Ram 3500, driven by Devan Green, of California, was northbound on Baxter Avenue. Green was heading to the northern part of the state to pick up livestock, according to Christie. Green told Christie that as he approached the intersection, he saw a 2000 Ford Taurus, driven by Sandra Kersey, of Churdan, on Iowa Highway 175. Green told Christie he thought the car was turning, but Kersey actually was going straight. Kersey’s car hit the back end of the pickup truck, causing it to fold into the trailer and end up in the ditch on the northeast part of the road. Christie said Kersey suffered minor injuries in the crash. Green was not hurt. Baxter Avenue has stop signs in the north and southbound lanes, but Iowa Highway 175 does not have any stop signs. The Calhoun County Sheriff’s Department, Gowrie Police Department and the Southwest Webster Emergency Medical Service from Gowrie also responded to the scene.
