FD council starts street painting, demolition jobs

Lines will be painted on streets, some rundown houses will be demolished and designs will be made for upgrades at the Fort Dodge firehouse as a result of contracts awarded by the City Council Monday.

The council hired Iowa Plains Signing, of Waterloo, to paint lane stripes on the streets at a cost of $50,485. The company was the only bidder for the project.

The council also hired Doyle Construction, of Fort Dodge, to finish knocking down the houses at 1503 Third Ave. S. and 312 S. 15th St. at a cost of $35,362.

Last year, the council hired ITS Land Improvement, of Manson, to do that work, but the job wasn’t completed.

Other bidders for the contract awarded Monday were Rasch Construction Inc., $36,146; and Clark Construction, $43,825. Both of those companies are from Fort Dodge.

Also on Monday, the council hired Sande Design, of Humboldt, to prepare plans for the first phase of a renovation and expansion of the firehouse at 1515 Central Ave. at a cost of $60,000.

That project will include:

• An addition to the building’s east side that will be the sleeping quarters;

• New water and sanitary sewer lines;

• A new boiler;

• The conversion of some offices and the training room into new bathrooms.

Construction is expected to start this fall.
