Ag secretary forum to be in Fort Dodge

Republicans to face questions at May 9 event

The five candidates seeking the Republican nomination for Iowa secretary of agriculture will answer questions during a forum in Fort Dodge on May 9.

The forum will begin at 7 p.m. in Fort Frenzy, 3232 First Ave. S.

Candidates Ray Gaesser, Chad Ingels, Craig Lang, Agriculture Secretary Mike Naig and Dan Zumbach have agreed to attend.

Bill Horan, a Calhoun County farmer, will be the moderator for the forum.

“We want to provide information to people so they can make an informed decision when they vote in the primary election,” said Jill Nelson, the community development director for the Greater Fort Dodge Growth Alliance.

The Growth Alliance is co-sponsoring the forum along with The Messenger, the Webster County Pork Producers, the Webster County Farm Bureau and Alpha Media Radio.

Nelson said people in the audience will be able to ask questions of the candidates.

The forum is for the Republican candidates because Tim Gannon is unopposed for the Democratic nomination.

The primary election will be June 5.
