Supervisors approve zoning changes, report on ISAC conference

A change to the zoning ordinance that should make it simpler to build on existing homesteads passed the Webster County Board of Supervisors Tuesday.

This was discussed at last week’s board meeting. The second reading passed Tuesday, and the third reading was waived.

“If somebody had an acreage and the house burned down, they’ll be able to build a house there,” Supervisor Keith Dencklau said.

This was already allowed but the change in rules will make things more straightforward and remove some barriers, Planning and Zoning Administrator Chad Bahr said last week.

The change also affects some rules for signs.

Last week supervisors traveled to the capital and attended a conference with the Iowa State Association of Counties.

“We had the chance to talk to some of our legislators,” Supervisor Bob Thode said. “We also talked about some different ways to improve county buildings, etc. So that is information we’ll get to pass on to everybody.

“It was a good conference.”
