EAGLE GROVE — Jason Marvets, who admitted to child exploitation and extortion involving two underage girls, has been sentenced to federal prison.

Marvets, 30, of Eagle Grove, was sentenced to more than 28 years in prison on Monday.

He had previously pleaded guilty to one count of sexual exploitation of a child and one count of extortion.

At his plea hearing, Marvets admitted that he coerced a child to send him sexually explicit photos of herself.

The child was 11 and 12 years old when this was happening from 2016 to 2017.

Additionally, according to the United States attorney’s office, Northern District of Iowa, Marvets admitted that he threatened to distribute the photos in order to get more from her.

During his plea hearing, Marvets also admitted that he received sexually explicit depictions of a 15-year-old child “and threatened to ruin her life when she did not communicate with him.”

Marvets was sentenced in Cedar Rapids on Monday.

He received a total prison sentence of 344 months, which totals more than 28 and a half years in prison.

In addition, once he is released, he must serve seven years of supervised release.

The Wright County Sheriff’s Department, Webster County Sheriff’s Department, the Georgia Bureau of Investigation and the Michigan State Police all assisted in the investigation.
