US 169 crash fatal to one

BADGER — One person died in an apparent head-on collision north of Fort Dodge on U.S. Highway 169 Monday night, Amy Stringer, Webster County sheriff’s deputy, reported.

The person’s name was withheld pending notification of family.

At least one other person was transported by ambulance to UnityPoint Health — Trinity Regional Medical Center with injuries.

The crash was reported at about 8:20 p.m. It apparently involved a Honda van and a pickup truck. The van ended up on the east side of the highway.

Firefighters used a variety of rescue tools to try and free the crash victims.

Northbound and southbound lanes on U.S. Highway 169 near 115th Street were closed for at least an hour while first responders worked on scene.

The Badger Volunteer Fire Department, Clare Volunteer Fire Department, Webster County sheriff’s deputies, Iowa State Patrol, Humboldt County sheriff’s deputies, Fort Dodge police and paramedics with UnityPoint Health — Trinity Regional Medical Center responded.
