A Fort Dodge man was arrested after he led officers on a short chase north of downtown Sunday afternoon, according to Lt. Dennis Mernka, of the Fort Dodge Police Department.

Jeremy L. Altman, 37, of Fort Dodge, allegedly ran two stop signs near North 10th Street before an officer attempted to stop him at about 4:08 p.m.

Altman then drove around the block before bailing from the car he was driving in. The car struck a tree along Third Avenue North.

Altman went into a nearby house. He was arrested there without further incident, Mernka reported.

The chase lasted less than two minutes, according to Mernka.

No injuries were reported. The car appeared to have minor damage to the front end.

Altman was wanted for failure to return to the Fort Dodge Residential Correctional Facility. He is facing numerous traffic violations.

The Fort Dodge Police Department and Webster County sheriff’s deputies were on scene.
