FD chase suspect held on bond

Jeremy L. Altman

A Fort Dodge man who police say led officers on a brief chase Sunday has been ordered held on bond.

Jeremy L. Altman, 36, is charged with eluding, a serious misdemeanor, and simple misdemeanor interference with official acts, failure to obey a traffic control device, and driving under suspension.

Altman was ordered held on $1,000 cash bond by Magistrate William Thatcher.

According to Fort Dodge Police Lt. Dennis Mernka, Altman allegedly ran two stop signs near North 10th Street before an officer attempted to stop him at about 4:08 p.m.

Altman then drove around the block before bailing from the car he was driving. The car struck a tree along Third Avenue North.

Altman went into a nearby house. He was arrested there without further incident, Mernka reported.

The chase lasted less than two minutes.

No injuries were reported. The car appeared to have minor damage to the front end.

Altman’s preliminary hearing has been set for Jan. 31.
