Dog perishes in FD house fire
Blaze was so dangerous, firefighters had to get out of the home after about five minutes
A dog was killed in a house fire Monday night that left the building at a total loss.
The fire at 1505 L St. was reported around 10 p.m.
Assistant Fire Chief Lenny Sanders said other than the dog, there were no injuries reported in the fire.
Sanders said the resident was not home at the time of the fire.
“They had had some electrical problems with the house earlier in the evening, so she had gone to her sister’s,” he said.
However, Sanders didn’t definitively say that was the reason the fire started.
“There’s certainly the possibility to a connection,” he said. “But we don’t know exactly.”
Because of how heavily the house was damaged, Sanders said firefighters may never find out what caused the blaze.
The blaze was so dangerous, firefighters had to get out of the home after about five minutes.
They then directed hose streams into the house from the outside.
Flames were shooting through the roof when firefighters arrived on scene.
The Webster County Assessor’s website lists the deed holders as Steven B. Friesth and Julie A. Friesth.
The Fort Dodge Police Department also responded to the scene.
