East Sac Co. student dies in farming accident

LAKE VIEW — Students and staff at East Sac County High School gathered for a candlelight service Sunday night to remember the life of Ethan Nissen.

Nissen, 17, of Sac City, reportedly died Saturday in a farm accident, according to information from family and friends online.

The remembrance service was held in the west parking lot outside of the school. More than 75 people attended.

Nissen was a junior in high school. He was a leading rusher and receiver on the football team and a leading hitter on the baseball team.

All high school activities were canceled Sunday.

East Sac County High School Principal Kevin Litterer declined to comment and asked that any information regarding Nissen come directly from the superintendent of schools.

He declined to have students or staff interviewed.

A call placed to Superintendent Barb Kruthoff was not returned Sunday.

Information from the Sac County Sheriff’s Department was not available by press time.

A GoFundMe page was started to help Nissen’s family pay for funeral expenses.

According to the school website, Nissen’s visitation is from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday at East Sac County High School.

All East Sac County students will be dismissed at 12:55 p.m. that day.

The funeral is at 10:30 a.m. Friday at East Sac County High School.

There is no school on Friday.
