FD mayor, council to take oath Tuesday

Mayor Matt Bemrich, Councilwoman-elect Lydia Schuur and the recently re-elected members of the Fort Dodge City Council will take the oath of office Tuesday.

The swearing-in ceremony will begin at 11:30 a.m. in the Municipal Building, 819 First Ave. S.

At 12:15 p.m. Tuesday, there will be a special council meeting.

During that session, the council members will elect a mayor pro tem, who will preside over council meetings and perform other mayoral duties in Bemrich’s absence.

The council members will also elect a dean of the council who will preside over meetings if both the mayor and mayor pro tem are absent.

Council members will also decide what committees they will serve on.

Bemrich won his third term in the Nov. 7 general election.

Schuur was elected to serve as an at-large councilmember. She will replace Councilman Andy Fritz, who lost his bid for a third term.

Councilmen Jeff Halter (at-large), Terry Moehnke (Ward 1), Dean Hill (Ward 2), Dave Flattery (Ward 3) and Kim Alstott (Ward 4) were re-elected.
