GOWRIE — Two people were taken to UnityPoint Health — Trinity Regional Medical Center after being injured in a two-vehicle accident on Iowa Highway 175 Wednesday afternoon.

The accident, which was reported around 2 p.m., happened at the intersection of Highway 175 and Baxter Avenue.

Trooper Kyle Kluender, of the Iowa State Patrol, said an S&H Distribution van was southbound on Baxter Avenue while a semitractor truck and trailer were westbound on Highway 175.

Kluender said the driver of the van, “for whatever reason, didn’t see the truck coming.”

The two vehicles crashed, sending them into the southwest ditch at the intersection.

Kluender didn’t have the names of the people who were involved in the accident, but he did say one of them was suffering from serious injuries when they were transported to the hospital.

A second patient was also transported.

Baxter Avenue has stop signs at the intersection, but Highway 175 does not.

In addition to the Iowa State Patrol and Trinity, other responding agencies included the Webster County Sheriff’s Department, Gowrie Police Department and Iowa Department of Transportation, as well as rescuers from Gowrie, Farnhamville and Calhoun County.
